NEATH PORT TALBOT CHILDREN'S RIGHTS UNIT.

Hello, we're

We want to see more young people on boards, councils and advisory panels.

Introduction

We know young people have the energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. They bring new ideas and a different perspective.

They also possess the skills your group might be looking for.

We can help young people gain the skills needed, as well as a 'Preparing to be a Board Member' Level 1 CQFW qualification - in the classroom or online, in English or in Welsh.

Testimonials

“The 'Preparing to be a Board Member’ training was so much fun, I gained a true understanding of what the role entails and this has inspired me to hopefully become a charity board member in the future!”

“I thoroughly enjoyed completing the ‘Preparing to be a Board Member’ qualification. It was fun, interactive, and interesting. I learnt valuable skills which have helped me with my role as Chair of BAYouth, and I would encourage all members of an advisory panel to complete the training - it is more than a qualification because it is a way of increasing the participation of young people in a wide range of voluntary roles."

As well as our accredited training for young people, we can tailor a course to your requirements.

(For example, you might wish to make your board more inclusive so young people want to join.)

If you think we can help diversify your board, get in touch; we'd love to hear from you.

Our Story

In February 2015, the Children's Rights Unit appointed its first 'Young Trustee' - Harri Evans-Mason. Upon Harri's appointment, he asked if there was any training that new board members had to undertake... Of course there should be! (And not just for young trustees, either. Why didn’t we think of that before?) The 'Young Trustees Cymru' Project was born.

Our Mission

Even though our funding has now ended, we realise there is a need for young people to be trained in good governance, decision-making and general board member duties. That is why Get on Board Cymru is devoted to developing and delivering training for young people and organisations - both online and in the classroom, in English and in Welsh - to share best practice across Wales.
